Binsacca, a former editor of Builder and The Practical Homeowner, explains the often-confusing construction process so that even those who are "un-handy" will understand how builders work and be able to make informed decisions when building their homes. He does an excellent job of describing how a house is built, from initial site preparation to final inspection. He surveys the different materials and techniques and carefully explains which features can be changed by builders and which must be completed a particular way. Photos and drawings explain specifics, and highlighted boxes define terms and give tips throughout. Helpful for anyone who is building a house, this book is recommended for public libraries. Book Description: • Helps you understand what's happening and why with your new home project. • Page icons help explain construction terms and techniques in plain english. • Takes the mystery out of the construction process. Customer Reviews A very good overview for someone not in the trades, March 5, 2000 Reviewer: John Dumke from Long Beach, CA This books strength lies in the way it is layed out. The chapters are layed out in the exact order in which a home is built. This has been very helpful in scheduling my own project. The book is organized from the prospective of a purchaser of a new home and what they should expect. The chapters are organized like a timeline as a home is completed. Details about individual steps are kept to a minimum, which for the purpose of this book is good. This is an ideal purchase for somebody who has, or is about to purchase a new home prior to it being built.
